Green light stays on for hours and it won't turn off

I have an ipod shuffle 512 mb. it works perfectly as an flash drive, i can transfer data to my ipod, store music, files, everything...but i cannot listen to music. i upload the songs to my ipod with the latest version of itunes, i eject it, and i unplug it from my 2.0 usb port. i turn it on and the green light turns on and as you know it should turn off after a few seconds so i can hit the play button...but this doesn't happen at all. i've left my ipod on for 30 mins and the green lifht was still on. i press all the buttons but nothing happens. even when my ipod is on and i press the battery status check, nothing happens. What could be the problem? please answer me!!!!

Has the shuffle ever worked, like out of the box? If so, reinstall the software that came with the shuffle, then research some more to see if other users are experiencing the same thing. It seems like the "green light" problem has been a common difficulty with Windows users. I use the 1GB version on the Mac side and haven't had a single problem including all the updates.

Good Luck.

my shuffle has not worked at all. just got it for a present [it was bought 10 days ago with a 1-year guarantee and - would you believe! - when i tried to arrange warranty service online i was told the warranty had expired!!]

what would be the problem when the green light stays on and there's no sound coming out of the thing from the gitgo?

I have installed the software and the itunes (the newest versions from apple.com) and it still doesn't work. i went to a specialist who told me that the inside sound amplifier may be broken and that there is nothing else to do. what will i do, i hate the ideea of carrying my ipod in my pocket just to grab some files from my friends computers...and being unable to listen to some good quality music like i did for about 2 weeks till it has broken...

Hello everyone...I had the same problem but solved it by turning on the Shuffle. Then pressing and holding the Play/Pause button for at least 5 seconds until the Green light blinks Orange. Turn it off for a few seconds then turn it back on and the Green light should turn off after a few seconds. I then had to remove and reinstall the latest updater because of an error message it was giving me. Although I suspect that was because it was conflicting with an old updater. Once I got it updated, connected to my PC, iTunes picked it up and I loaded it with songs and it's working like new now. Remember to always connect the Shuffle in the off position and stop the USB device prior to disconnecting it. (For Windows users; don't know if it applies to Mac users.) Hope this helps everyone out! And sorry bout the long read! 🙂

i could not get my ipod to produce sound no matter how many times i reset, updated, re-installed, etc. the green light stayed on and all i got was the sound of silence [thanks, simon and garfunkle!]

i am in the process of returning it for repair or replacment. the number that finally produced this option is
1-800 275-2273.

the process of returning is convoluted [taping the phone contact helps ro make sure you have all the details], but hopefully will result in my having a working ipod.

good luck to all of you [and happy holidays.]
