minimizing windows with double click

I'm new to the macbook pro. I've been using powermac G5 for years. I like the feature where I can double click on the ?title bar? of any given window that is open and it zips down and minimizes to the dock.

I can't seem to make that happen with the macbook. I have to click on that little yellow circle to make it minimize.

Why can't I use the double click option to minimize? Are there other options to minimize a window quickly?
