App updates not available after changing country on my Apple ID

Hi,

I have moved from Sweden to Mexico, and hence I do not have a swedish creditcard any longer. I changed the country and creditcard information on my Apple ID to Mexico.

Now iTunes tells me I have app updates available, but when I click the "11 Updates Available" link that leads to the iTunes store, I get the message "No updates are currently available. To check for updates for another account, sign in with that account". But I only have one account.

Frustrated by not getting app updates in the Mexico store, I borrowed my fathers creditcard (Me and him are both swedish citizens) in order to restore my Apple ID to the Swedish iTunes store.
Same result, iTunes still tells me I have 11 available updates, but when I click the update link, I am not allowed to download the updates.

Anyone knows how to solve this?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

I actually messed around a bit, if I re-download an app that needed updating from my new country's store then it replaced and updated the previous app, I don't know they will charge for the paid apps all over again, and this might have to be done for every single app but I have 185 apps and i simple dont have the time to repeat this process 185 times, any new solution and suggestions would be very helpful

Michael, I have the precise same problem, having relocated from the UK to the US ie I have 32 application updates available which I am seemingly unable to download/update. Looks like the usual parochial protectionism of companies (like Apple but IMHO others such as Sony are equally culpable.) I bought the applications in the UK, paid Apple the money but can no longer use the latest version, just because my job moved me to a new location. Thanks Apple, stunning lack of understanding about globally mobile customers.
Sorry I can't help Michael, but I thought I'd add my comment. Good luck and hope life is treating you well in Mexico.

Hi,

I had the same situation, I used to live in the US and now in UK. I found the only thing I could do (apart of re-purchasing) was to create new account. So I now have a US account and UK account, as the updates are free it doesn't matter that I don't have a US credit card anymore, I am just using a friend's address as the account needs a home address.

It is not ideal as I have to log out of the UK account and log into the US account every now and again to get the updates but it is better than re-purchasing.

Another tip, if for some reason I do want to add credit to my US account, althoguh I can't use a credit card I just pick up iTunes prepay cards when I go back to US on business trips and add them the credit from those to the account.

Hope that helps.

Hi

To add to this thread, I too just moved from Japan to the US. Since the language barrier issues occur with software, most of the software I paid for in JP is not going to be on the US iTunes, and visa versa. So what happens, we loose all the software we paid for on the 5 iphones and 2 ipads, 3 itouch we own? Impossible.

Anyone have any helpful hints on what to do, other then creating a seperate account and logging into each when I get bored enough, please let me know :-D 1 device, 2 accounts, does it work?

Thanks for your time, hope to hear from you.

Apps are tied to the account that was used to purchase them.

I believe that since the same apps are not available in all countries, they are also linked behind the scenes to the country for the store they were purchased from. If you've changed your country, I don't believe you qualify for free updates to those apps unless you change your account BACK to the original country.

Not saying that's how it should be, just that's how it appears to work. Contact Apple and see what the explanation is.

I had this issue recently also and I contacted iTunes Support.

iTunes Store content is country specific and not available to all countries, however there are likely to be many items you purchased or downloaded that are available worldwide.

To re-download your previous purchases and to ensure that you can keep your Apps up to date you need to re-select them from the iTunes store as if you're buying them again. iTunes will recognise that you've already purchased them and let you download the content for free. To test it out, try downloading one of your cheaper Apps or songs again. It should advise that the update is free as you've already purchased it.

If you don't update your Apps from the new country's store, you won't be able to keep them up to date unless you update the Apps via an iPhone or iPad.

I just did. I had bought an app in the Latvian app store. Since then I moved to Luxembourg. I was able to download the app to my iPhone for free, even though it had never been installed on the iPhone, and even the price had increased (threefold) since I originally bought the app. It just said that I am entitled to the upgrade and asked wheter I want to download it.
