WiFi Problem with Linksys

I just bought the Ipad and have tried several solutions with regards to WiFi connection with the Ipad. I have turned off my routers security and the Ipad works fine. When I turn the security back on and try to enter the password it cannot connect to my network. I have restarted the router (which is an older model), tried to change the settings of the router. Is it possible my router is just an older model and I need a new one for the Ipad to work...any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.

It is possible that the router is too dated, as you asked, but before saying that have you updated the router's firmware? What security level are you trying to run that is the conflict? There have been posts recently regarding problems with Linksys and Belkin routers, especially older models.

If you can, run WPA or better security, iPads are not fond of WEP.

After updating the firmware, power cycle the router, reset the network on the iPad, Settings > WiFi > Reset and then reenter all of the network information on the iPad.

See if some of those steps don't help.

I've just attempted to use WIFI for the 1st time with my new IPAD with no luck.
My problem is also related to having a Linksys router which is about 2 years old.
The router is a model WRT54G. When I try to join the WIFI network, IPAD recognizes my SSID and shows the padlock icon indicating that the network is password protected. However when I enter the network password, it tells me that it's an incorrect password. I've verified that the password is correct. I do have the router set for 128 WEP encryption. So, if I understand one of the replies to this thread, I assume this may be the problem ???

Right now, the IPAD is useless to me at home for WIFI......

I have a linksys router and am having all of the problems of slow loading pages
and unusably slow streaming. We have installed the latest updates for the router and still have the same problems. Tried all of the suggestions from the apple support people including hard reset, reset back to original and finally upgrading to 4.2.1. Nothing worked. A trip to the genius bar pronounced my ipad to be working fine! Tried it at Starbucks and it was so slow that it was laughable. I installed an app to measure bandwidth and the results were close to the ones that are advertised for our ISP (2.4Mbps) and just slightly under those measured on a hard-wired PC and a laptop connecting via wireless. Not sure what to do next...

Get a better ISP. 2.4Mbps is slow.... There is nothing you can do if your Internet connection is slow due to your ISP's network.

Does your password have any special characters in it i.e !"£$%^&*() or anything like that?

Try changing your password to something really simple, like password just for now and test it.

Have you enabled MAC address filtering? If you have dont forget to allow your iPad's MAC address.

I have a linksys router using WPA2/AES encryption and everything is perfect. I'm also running the DD-WRT firmware not the linksys one.

If ANYONE is having wireless problems the very first thing you should do is update the firmware. So many people I visit have firmware which is 2-3 YEARS out of date.
