Canon iR-ADV C7055 Missing Paper Sizes

We have a Canon iR-ADV C7055 using the imagePass A1 Fiery controller.

When I try to print tabs (9"x11") from Adobe InDesign CS5, I go to the Print dialog box, click Setup and click on the Paper Size drop down menu. Tab Paper (Letter) is missing, which does not allow me to choose the correct paper size. Tab Paper (A4) does show up, so I'm wondering if this is an issue with InDesign or the print driver itself.

I have confirmed that this is also an issue in Acrobat as well.

There are two driver versions available for the imagePASS - a UK and a US. Maybe you are using the UK version which would show A4 rather than LTR. If you check Print & Fax > Options & Supplies > Driver it will show which region driver you are using.

If you are using the US version PPD then maybe try opening a PDF in Preview and see if the same symptom exists.

Okay, had a look at the Canon iR-ADV C7000s-A1 PS (US) PPD and it does show that the "9 x 11/Tab Paper (Letter)" paper size. However it appears to be under an EFI Media selection menu and thus if you select to print and open Fiery Features > Full Config > Media > Paper Size you will see Tab Paper (Letter). So while it does not appear in the Paper Size menu of the print dialog at least it is available to use. I think that if you set the print dialog paper size to Letter and then use the Fiery menu to select Tab Paper (Letter) then it may work.

As to why the size does not appear in the default print dialog I am not sure. Obviously it has something to do with the PPD but without reference material at this point I don't know where OS X expects it to be. If using the above procedure is an inconvenience then you should escalate this to Canon.

In the interest of curiosity, I created a document in InDesign CS4 to see if I could choose "Tab Paper (Letter)" and, lo and behold, there it was in the Adobe print "Setup" dialog box (but is peculiarly missing from the OS X "Page Setup" dialog box).

For some reason, InDesign CS5 does not see "Tab Paper (Letter)" as a Paper Size option.

One of the concerns I have with using the method prescribed by you is that when the page area is rasterized to the printer, it may cut off the image at the edge of the tabs that is not included in the "Letter" page size.

Tried ID CS4 also and could see the same paper sizes. CS4 must be referencing the different section of the PPD compared to OS X's page setup.

Don't have CS5 to confirm this but if it is relying more on the OS X print system rather than doing it own thing, which CS4 and earlier certainly did, then this makes some sense.

Understood but it is worth trying. I could only see this as an issue if you were trying to print on the tab ear.
