Battery VS Direct Current

The iPad will neither know nor care where the power comes from. All it cares about is that the power it gets is correct, and the iPad is fine running from an external source. As long as you use an adapter certified for use with an iPad, you shouldn't have any problems.

To follow Dave's comments, there are automobile adapters readily available, such as from the Apple on-line store. If you are buying from somewhere else, especially a brand not carried at the on-line store, be very careful about the quality and certification to supply the voltage and current the iPad wants to see.

1. House current is AC.
2. AC is NOT delivered to your cell phone.
3. AC is converted to DC in the charger and DC is delivered to the cell phone.
4. I never heard of such advice from AT&T. How in the world would they expect you to use a home charger if that was a concern?
5. The stories are false.

As I said, if you get an adapter certified for use with an iPad, so that it provide the appropriate voltage and amperage, you'll be fine. Here's one such adapter:

I am really not sure what you are talking about...the charger Apple, and all device manufacturers, supply takes house voltage and current (AC) and then supplies it to the device as direct current (DC). DC is the only way the iDevices and MacBook family operate.

Battery IS direct current.

The charger/adapter converts household AC to DC, which the iPad (and all electronics) use.
