Can't create new guitar track!!!

I'm no beginner, and I'm thinking this is a software issue.

I can create real instrument and software tracks, but NOT a new guitar track - nothing happens once I hit "create". UNLESS I start a new song with a guitar track, that works fine. But what if I want to add a guitar track after I start a song - no good. I can work around this by always starting with a guitar track and then duplicating that guitar track but this is a PITA.

So, what am I missing?

Thanks y'all!

I am just pasting my TGP response here...if it works then it may help others who check here for this issue.

I installed GB via the app store on my Mac at work and noticed the same thing but did not trouble shoot it yet.

I remembered a similar issue with guitar tracks with the GB '09 update also and was going to try the same fix but didn't get a chance to try yet...

Seeing your post I decided to DL GB 11 on my Mac at home. Thinking I would have the same issue again...but no joy, it worked fine. lol.

So I worked backwards to see if I could duplicate the issue and it did.

Check here:

HD>Library>Application Support>GarageBand>Instrument Library>Track Settings>Real>Guitar Track.

You should see all the .cst files in the Guitar Track folder.

When I move them out of that folder I have the same issue. No Guitar Track creation.

Therefore, assuming your folder is empty as the reason, check if there isn't a folder named: Guitars(Previous Version) in the same Real folder containing the .cst files.

If they are, you can drag them into the Guitar Track folder. However, you may have to do a get info on the folders and change your permissions at the bottom of the get info window to allow the transfer. As they are protected without read & write permissions checked.

Hopefully since I can duplicate the issue, that is all it is for you too.

I won't know until I get to work tomorrow and see if this is the issue for sure.

Yep and you may know if you checked TGP first it worked for me....

Since this may be of some benefit to other's I will explain it here also...

Inside my Real folder, I did not have a folder named Guitar Track. I did however have a folder named Guitars. Which contained all the .cst's.

I did a get info on the Real folder. Added read/write permissions and created a new folder inside the Real folder named Guitar Track. I dragged all the .cst's from Guitars into the new Guitar Track folder.

Started GB and I am now able to create an Electric Guitar track.

Hi, I've been having the same problem after installing Logic Express and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with my issue. I can create Software and Real Instrument tracks but no Electric Guitar (it was working fine prior to installing Logic). I tried opening the Real folder and changing permissions, etc. created the Guitar Track folder and copied the .cst's but to no avail. Not sure if Logic is the problem, or what I'd have to change in Logic or GB to make it work again. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think it is also important to say that a couple months ago I installed Logic Express 8.

I've reading that some people had the same problem I've been having after they installed Logic.

My GB 11 came with my macbook when I got it alst year.

As soon as I bought it I did the Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 download.

So... how should i proceed now? should I uninstall Logic and reinstall GB?

Thanks.
