    Right. Exactly why I'm peeved. Apple ought to have told me/us that their App Store actually put a permanent brand on our computers. I thought it was just an app install.

    I don't see how this is solved, Having the same problem. Just did a brand new install, all fresh data, NUll account error still is occuring, Have tried fixes from all threads to no avail. Using the same account as iTunes, Purchased apps show up, no apps listed in updates, yet Purchases shows updates available, clicking on update produces error, NULL account.

    Console shows error, multibyte IDS's are not allowed.

    The person that started the thread either considers it solved or is tired of having the thread open so he marked it as solved. That is the privilege of the person to who starts a thread. If you feel that this is still a problem then start your own thread that is your privilege.

    Solved means the creator of the thread thinks that their problem as an individual has been solved, not ANY ONE ELSES...

    also, I have deleted apps from MAS just fine

    Sounds like a permissions error of some sort. Use disk utility to verify your disk and repair permissions. If that doesn't work do a get info for the app and see if you can change permissions that way. If not, start a new thread and include what steps you have already taken.

    I've deleted apps from the app store so it's likely whatever problem you are having isn't specifically related to the App Store.

    Try logging into your iTunes account, make sure all information is correct, reset warnings towards the bottom and click Done. If that doesn't fix things start a new thread and list what specific things you have done to solve the problem.

    I found another possible solution. I encountered this problem this morning, and recognized that all apps listed that gave this error had their icons replaced with CandyBar recently. I went into CandyBar and removed the custom icon on one of the apps, and the MAS update worked normally. So, if any of you are using custom icons or any other custom resources, that may be the cause.

    Thanks for the suggestion, but I haven't replaced any icons.

    It's like these App Store applications were downloaded into the root level of my computer? Anyway, it's real disappointing to buy something from Apple and then not be able to delete it.

    Reminds me of the last couple of Windoze machines I had....I installed a firewall and then found out they were communicating with the Mother Ship in the background. They wouldn't work right unless I allowed it. I never knew what information they sent to Seattle but it was offensive that MS sacrificed my privacy and independence to pad their Balance Sheet.

    I was plagued by this for ages as well. I tried deleting the spotlight index and re-indexing multiple times to no effect. Not only that, but each re-index seemed to take longer and result in more and more odd spotlight behavior (it wouldn't find some applications randomly).

    Finally I performed a Fix Permissions in Disk Utility, then deleted the spotlight index and re-indexed (by adding the boot drive to the privacy preferences and then removing it) and both problems resolved perfectly.

    Hope that helps you or anyone else getting the Sign in to (null) to update error which persists after a spotlight re-index who might arrive at this post via google like I did.

    Making Spotlight reindex my Startup Volume worked. Thank you, obviously the Mac users are smarter then Apple Customer Service.

    I had this problem for a long time before finding a fix. As other posters indicated, it does appear to be a Spotlight related problem, but simply reindexing the disk didn't fix it for me.

     

    This however did work (although I'm not entirely clear what it does!!!) and after I posted it in another Apple discussion had a positive response. For full details see my blog (http://appleharvest.blogspot.com/2011/04/mac-app-store-good-bad-and-inexcusable. html) , but the terminal command I used successfully was

     

    arch -i386 mdimport /Applications

     

    Hope this works for other folk as well. It also fixed some other search related problems - specifically with the Alfred utility.

    Hi,

     

    I have the same issue and followed the instructions to disable the spotlight indexing but it didn't work.

     

    I really don't want to delete apps as the work around.

     

    Help!
