Have been using iOS4 OK. However this week the mail app stopped working. When I bring it up, it spins like it's getting the email but goes nowhere. Just says that it's checking but with no success. Can get to my email using the Safari browser. Have only one email account - that's on Verizon. Is there a way to correct the app or reload it?

The Mail app is built-in so can't be uninstalled and re-installed. Have you tried doing a reset : holding both sleep and home buttons for about 10 secs until the Apple logo appears ? Or even just removing it from the taskbar ?

Not the app itself,m ut sometimes deleting and re-installing an account can help.

Another thing to do when Mail gets stuck in that way, with the continually spinning "Getting new mail...." signal, is to force quit it. Force quit Mail — there are 2 ways to do this

    1. Double tap Home to open the Recents tray, press & hold any visible icon until they "wiggle" and show the red deletion buttons, then tap that button on the Mail icon, or

    2. Press & hold both the Home and the Sleep/Wake buttons until the red slider appears, then release Sleep/Wake. Continue to hold the Home button until the Mail page is replaced by a home screen.

Other steps to take, if needed, are in the Tips & Troubleshooting section of your manual.

Thank you. Your first suggestion did it.
