Q: Automation data resolution
I use Waveburner as actual professional mastering software. I find that the gain automation is just stupid. In the world of professional mastering, something Apple has yet to fully grasp, we deal with gain adjustments in the tenths of a dB, and need very clear control of this range of fine resolution. When I grab the gain automation line to make adjustments, Waveburner want's to treat those points with a resolution that wants to allow for me to make HUGE and coarse adjustments to gain, say 5, 10, 20dB or so. When you start, for example, getting down to levels like .4dB and want to raise that to 1.1dB, which is typical in the mastering world, Waveburner makes it VERY difficult to make such a fine adjustment. Personally, I think they should give the MOST visible resolution to the range below 6dB, so that small, fractional changes there involve large visible moves of the automation line.
Also, a modifier key while adjusting automation should make it VERY, VERY, VERY easy to move the automation line up or down in increments of 1/10 of a dB. That's what we need in pro mastering. Maybe somehow scale the automation differently so that people can access the larger, coarse automation if they need to, but absolutely make it easy for the critical, fine level tweaks.
Please Apple. You're so close with Waveburner!!!
