How do you lock the touch screen with an app still runing?

You can do this by going into Accessibility and guided access. Perfect for turning on iPlayer for the kids and then locking it so they don't keep switching it off. Crazy how many people say this function doesn't exist when it does!
Guided access looks like it will work great for movies but what about for playing games? It seems to look out all touching but games require touching. Will look into littlefingers to see if that helps but wanted to throw the question out to other while I investigate.
It does not lock out all touching, just the areas of the screen you need to protect. For a game you would not want it anyway, so what's the problem? Littlefingers is redundant -sorry!
The game I am trying to play is Rummikub and you have to drag tiles from one place to another. This does not work because everytime I try to move a tile the screen moves.
Hope someone can help!
Thanks. I finally found a streaming browser (photon) that will play the game but now my newest hurdle.
I've tried the guided access with my 1 1/2 year old (in times of dire need), but she still has a tendency to click the home button hundreds of times exiting the app!
Is there a way to remap the Silence Mode Button on the side of the iphone to just lock everything! Her fingers are so pudgy she'll never be able to flick that switch.
Not possible. Get a kids case that covers the Home Button.
I'm desperate for the same thing. Always wished that the switch on the side could be set to disable/enable the touch screen. I'm going to check out this Little Fingers thing you guys have talked about.
For your home button problem there are things called Bubcaps. They're rigid stickers that make the button harder to press for the little ones and I think they come in different levels of rigidity for when they get stronger.
Here's a link for you:
I'm sure you'll find other brands around too if you google around a bit.
Good luck.
Yes please do this! I am doing GCSE art and I use the flashlight app as a way to do tracings of pictures. It's very useful but when I lean on the iPad it flicks to other pages etc... Please do this! I'm sure it would also help with young children :)
This still hasn't been added yet?!
Come on Apple! The iPad isn't the only tablet on the market anymore. This watered down OSX really needs to get up to speed. Real basic stuff like being able to lock the screen, access to the root file system with a simple Finder window and driver compatibility with the USB port (via the breakout cable) really need to come up to speed. Don't even get me started on the kludgy connection protocal that actually requires iTunes to connect to the thing.
Honestly, this device should at least have some of the performance of an older G4 laptop. It's starting to feel like an abandoned product at this point.
Jim and AmbyGirl, you can do this! Read the full trail, you can lock the screen using guided access and it works perfectly
No, it does not work perfectly. Not at all.
Jim,
You're absolutely right. Time for them to step up. My iPad is pretty boring other Internet searching.
