I want to be able to lock the touch screen but not close the app (iTeleport). I still want the display to be active. I want to be able to lock it to prevent accidental input and unlock it at will. The "lock entire device" feature from hitting the power button doesn't work for this as it shuts off the display.

dual 2.7 G5 (8G RAM); 2.8GHz MBP (6G RAM, 48G SSD 500G HD); iPad, Mac OS X (10.6.5), Water cooled G5's still rule!

    Hi Jim,

I haven't seen anything in the documents on the iPad that permit locking or disabling the touch screen in that way.

Yeah, I can't find this anywhere in system prefs or iTeleport prefs. Wow, no one really thought of the need or want to lock the touch screen? Well then...

But since it is not really a computer, only a tablet...I am sure Apple is on a learning curve, also. These things have been taken to such heights that they may not have thought of this along the way.

    Send Apple feedback:

And you would unlock it how?

Not only did this never occur to Apple, it also seems never to have occurred to any of the other 14 million-odd users to request this feature.

I just found out today how to lock the screen since they got rid of the lock on the side by the volume button. I have iTeleport also and you can still screen lock without having to change ANY settings. Just quickly double-tap the HOME button and swipe your finger left to right and you will see a SCREEN LOCK icon. Put the iPad in the desired location and touch the button. When you want to change, just do the same thing again. Hope it works for you!

Ohhh .... orientation lock. Locking the screen in an orientation.

    <heavy sigh>

This was introduced in 4.2.1, is completely described in the User's Guide and everywhere else, and has been discussed literally ad nauseum in these and other forums, in dozens and dozens of threads and thousands of posts, ever since 4.2.1 was introduced.

But thanks for letting us know.

Not talking about orientation lock. Right now the lock button shuts off the screen in addition to locking the touch surface. I want to lock the touch surface (against accidental input) but leave the screen on. How to unlock it? Simply push the lock button a 2nd time and slide the prompt (this is currently documented in the manual).

I use the iPad as part of a wireless mixing console. Sometimes drunk/immature people see a touch screen and want to be idiots. I'd like to keep it locked until I need it but the screen needs to stay on.

You are so right this would be great for people reading ebooks, web pages etc... temp. lock the touch screen and they don't have to be ever so careful not to touch the screen while they are reading their book or w/e. In fact it would be an advantage being able to touch the screen, making it easier to hold more comfortably.

Sorry, but in that case I just tell what you are talking about!

You have an app running you want the app to keep running, but you don't want any screen input to be possible while the app is running. That about sum it up?

However, you want some iOS control to do this for you, right? Some reversible control which has to remain accessible, and can therefore be used by this very same drunk, immature people.

Sorry, but there's no way the iOS needs to provide this capability, IMHO. That said, what would be your objection to having it built into the app itself? Seems like a simple thing to add, and would probably be there already if they had also thought it a critical function

My app to do just this has been submitted to the store. I'll keep you posted as to if and when it's accepted.

It'll be a cool feature for anyone other there who has kids!

    I need this too...

My 1.5years old kid like to watch cartoon that i loaded in, he always hit screen or home button accidently over and over!

    Cool! Yes, keep me posted!

Any developments with the app produced by xertpo to lock the touchscreen?
