Canon MG8120 AirPrint Support Any Time Soon????

I just bought this sweet top of the line Canon wireless printer and I'm majorly BUMMED that it doesn't work with AirPrint.

It can print photos via a Canon app... But only photos.

I want AirPrint support! 😉

Has anyone heard if this model will be supported? I love the printer! It's an awesome AIO. But I would like to print from my iPhone and iPad.

Thanks,
D

Dolf-

Searching Canon and Epson websites for iOS compatible printers, each offers a program for your desktop computer that will share their printer for printing via AirPrint. They seem to suggest that program provides all the AirPrint support you will get from them. Perhaps it is too soon to tell.

Andrew may disagree, but I think Apple has suffered some embarrassment due to the lack of available AirPrint printers and problems with bonjour on some WiFi routers. It may not be Apple's fault, but they are the one we blame. They could greatly improve the situation if an iOS upgrade provided some minimum support for PostScript, Epson and Canon basic printers.

Thanks for the info... Apple is to blame. At least for very deceptive advertising. I also blame Canon for plastering Apple products on the box. Also deceptive.

I assumed since I had the latest software and I was buying an expensive and new device that AirPrint would be supported.

If Apple/Canon eventually enables this functionality (then I don't have a problem) but if not, I feel duped by both of them.

The majority of currently marketed and in use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth printers require your Pc/Mac to have drivers loaded on them to work.

e-print printers send print requests to the printer via email to the printer onboard email client and mini brain. This is not Wi-Fi or bluetooth based but does mean the e-printer needs to be internet connected.

This email is read on the printer and converted to postscript/cups ONBOARD and finally printed.

This means that you do not have to load drivers on your PC/Mac/iPhone/iPad/Android and is +the way+ forward in personal printing.

Existing printers simply can not be upgraded

Apple are harnessing this technology right NOW on the i- devices but its up to the printer manufacturers to bring to market new printers with the requisite mini brain / email clients.
Currently HP have brought several at differing price points and other vendors will follow.

The real disappointment from Apple was the late withdrawal of printing to a printer connected to a PC/Mac on the same Wi-Fi network under ios4.2
This is believed to be due to a Patent Troll law suit.

There are however third party methods for both PC and Mac that restores this functionaity

For a Mac you can do a few options - Printopia or AirPrintHacktivator and others . You can even use command line instructions in terminal to achieve this

Windows PC have similar solutions.
