Sync contacts with windows address book

I have stored my Iphone 4 contacts into a csv file on my computer. I'm going to use the windows address book to restore by contacts which are saved into a csv file. Within the windows address book, you can create multiple identities.

How do I select which identity I want to use when restoring my contacts to my Iphone 4? All I get in I-Tunes is windows address book, how do I know which identity it will use unless I can select the one I want to use?

I don't want to sync the wrong contacts.

Hope this makes sense, thanks for your help.

As far as I am aware, "identities" is an Outlook Express concept that was dropped by Microsoft some time ago in favour of separate User Accounts along with Windows Address Book being replaced by Windows Contacts. I am also not 100% sure that iTunes will sync with Windows Address book. Do you see it on the drop down menu in the Sync Contacts tab?

If you do and if iTunes will sync with Windows Address Book you should only see the contacts associated with the identity you are using and shared contacts. If iTunes then syncs, it should sync with the identity you are using at the time of the sync.

Outlook 2002 isn't officially supported in relation to an iPhone/iTunes sync but, from other posts, it appears that it does work. I expect that it should behave like Outlook Express/Windows Address Book and sync with the identity you are using at the time of the sync.

However, as always before a sync, I would recommend that you back up your current Outlook configuration for all identities just in case you need to restore to it after the sync if it doesn't behave as expected.
