Dell Monitor S2409W

I have an iBook G4 with a VGA adapter for a Dell S2409W monitor. I cannot choose a higher resolution than 1024x768, when Dell recommends 1920x1080. The monitor works as a display but the screen is stretched a little which makes it difficult to view text, etc. Is this a limitation of the graphics card? Does anyone know a workaround or fix to get the iBook to be able to send the 1920x1080 signal to the monitor? I tried to download a driver from Dell with no success. Thanks in advance for your help.

iBook G4 1.33 Ghz PowerPC G4, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I just installed the screen spanning doctor, now I get the 1920x1080, but it does fill completely my monitor screen. It is only about 13" diagonal, and my monitor is 23" diagonal. Any suggestion to get my screen to fill out completely on the monitor? Thanks

Correction: After applying the screen spanning doctor, it does NOT fill out completely my monitor.

Is the picture on the monitor centered with black bars on either side?

Do you have another computer you could try the monitor with?

Yes, the picture is centered and black bars are on all sides (top, bottom, left & right).

I do have a Dell PC that I use it on also without any issues.
