Samsung Galaxy S as modem for MacBook Pro

Have just purchased a Galaxy S mobile which is great but might have been a wrong move as a MacBook lover. Does anyone know how to use the Mobile AP with the Mac so that I can also use the phone as a modem? I could go back to using my Windows platform but mad about my Mac!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Folks,

I am currently using the samsung galaxy S model with my Mac book pro in the UK using the Orange network. Using the AP application it works great when I am connected to the 3G network - quite fast.

The phone just appears on the wireless list on the Mac and then you apply the code (from the AP application) on the phone to login.

Not sure where it's going wrong for you...

Hi Gareth,

Thanks for the response.

I can connect but as mentioned signal strength/speed (?) seems to be lacking. Maybe 3G was not good in the area I was trying in. Do you find that the phone uses more capacity to run the Mac than say another modem? I am asking these questions as I want to cancel my present contract with Vodafone (hopeless coverage) and move to Optus with the Galaxy but need to have it working first.

Hi memane2

This is what I do which you can try and if it doesnt work you can ring the Samsung Support people on 1300362603. Very helpful. I bought my phone about a month ago and it appears to be the updated model so fairly straight forward. (If your phone is not up to date, you will have to use the menu button to get into Settings or download through Windows.) Open Settings - Wireless and network - Mobile AP (WiFi off!). Before turning on Mobile AP, go into Mobile AP Settings (you will see the name of your network) and set your security password. Samsung support said I might have to turn the phone off/on but I didnt. Now turn on AP - have your computer Wi Fi connection open - (instructions to complete should be shown at the bottom of your phone screen) - Find your phone in WiFi network list - connect with AndroidAP...... by entering your password in WPA field. This should work for you if the coverage is good in your area. I was having problems because the Optus coverage in my area is lousy. It does work! Best of luck!
