Audio in and Audio out - MacBook Pro

Hello!

I'm interested in purchasing a MacBook Pro mainly for music production (I'm kinda new to the whole DJing scene) and I noticed a small difference between the 13' and 15' models. The 15' model includes a separate Audio in and Audio out while the 13' has only one Audio in/out exit. Does anyone knows what's the difference between the two? What can I do with a separate Audio in and Audio out exits like in the 15' model? Is it worth paying the extra $700?

if you're recording directly into your mac with a mic, i would assume you want to monitor it. with a single audio in/out you have to use the internal speakers to monitor your audio while you're recording. if you don't use headphones you're going to get major feedback.

so yes, either the $700 is worth it, or maybe you don't need a mac for audio recording. really.

Alamar is correct. Save your money and get a PC. Just don't expect it to be as reliable.
I have a pro 13 and kick myself for not reading the WHOLE spec sheet before spending the 3k.
I am also a DJ and I do a lot of sound production work for radio. The mac is great for errrrr Nothing really.
Talk about "The Small Print"
In this day and age you would expect better than a single audio input/output on a $3000 computer.
I did.
And the fact you cant expend it makes my Mac book pro worth sweet FA to me.

How did you manage to pay $3000 for a 13-inch MBP? In any case, you're going to get much better quality recording through a firewire or USB audio interface, either of which would allow you to have input and output at the same time. I recommend the Apogee Duet for $500. Yes, it's more money to spend, but it's really the best reasonable solution out there. And, besides, if you spent $3000 on your MBP, maybe you don't mind another $500?

Oops. Yes, I see that now. So sorry. In any case, check out my suggestion for a firewire-based audio interface.

its no real issue, a smallish external firewire / USB2 audio interface should sound better that the built in I/O and be cheaper that the 15", just watch out that if you decide later on a macbook, firewire goes out the window also.

i never record into my built it I/O unless its into a optical, its a minor issue.

Yes it is, the 13" is rather lacking on a lot of things, including the video card.

Mac's have optical audio in/out ports in the stereo mini ports, which produce clearly audiophile level music.

If you want to impress people, marry a 2.2 Ghz 15" or better MBP to a quality receiver and speakers with a optical Toslink adapter and cable and you'll "WOW!" them for sure. Hear the full quality of iTunes music you have been paying for and listening on crappy iPods and their cheap headphones.
