QuickTime Player X will record screen video but it will not record the internal audio from your computer, if that's what you need to do. The audio record is from the built-in mic or an external source only, evidently so that someone can record narration as with a software tutorial. If you need to record both the screen and internal audio, you'll need to get a third-party screen capture utility.
Regards.
Howdy, you can use some screen recorder to help you.It can help you capture whatever streaming video and audio files played on your computer screen with high quality. And it also help you save the file. I always use it to help me record screen with audio.
Start a new screen recording on quicktime X, then the black window will appear. Click the tiny white arrow and select the mircropone 😉 yes you have quicktime X if you are on snow leopard

hope you found this helpful
Excellent, Mac FX. Works perfectly with YOUR advice. No need for external mic...works with built-in just fine!
Thanks for knowing what you're talking about!!!
Which is what we all said a year and a half ago. The original poster asked about capturing sound from the computer itself, not from a microphone. Mac FX's advice was in fact off base as regards the original question, though I'm happy it helped you.
Thank you Mac FX that did the trick. I'm just adjusting mic input a bit as it sounds a little boomie. It could also be my room. But thanks again.
if as i do you want to record video and sound from the internal video cam, start new movie recording first and then new audio recording with sound from internal mic
I have the same experience. Quicktime 10 (on Mavericks) will record from the built-in microphone but not from line-in.
The real problem is that in the small dropdown menu in the Quicktime Screen record window the line-in option (and others) is included. Why does Apple include something that doesn't work?
APPLE - when you read comments like this in the support areas do you ever think of fixing the bugs we report? I don't believe support communities were intended to spend all their time thinking up work-arounds for bugs in the software! Come on, Apple, fix the problem or at least remove non-working options from the menus and avoid having us wasting our time.
recording screen and sound?
