Help. Black screen, I can hear the sounds of clicking on and off. Can't connect it iTunes because i can't see to enter my passcode. Tried holding the on-off/home together to no avail. What do I do now?
This worked for us! Thank you!

My wife was using my Ipad this morning, I have had it for about 2 weeks got it as a Christmas present. She was on Facebook and the screen just went black. Hitting the home key or the power key to turn it back on and nothing happened.
Any thoughts?
I have had this issue before. It seems to be a glitch with the proximity sensor. First locate the head phone jack , then while holding the ipad firmly with the right hand knock on the back corner of the ipad with your left knuckles right around where the headphone jack is . Do this a couple times and the screen should come back on.
Heres another tip: Is your ipad freezing up or crashing ? try closing all your open programs by double tapping the home button and hold your finger on one of the open apps and they will start to shake and a red minus sign will appear at the top of each app. click the minus sign on each app to close each app. The first time I did this i had 40 apps goung at the same time.

Thinking that all of the apps displayed in that tray are open and running is a common misconception. In fact, what you are looking at is the Multitasking (MT) Tray, sometimes also referred to as the Recents Tray, and is an ordered list of those apps which were last opened. Very very few of those apps will be multitasking capable and not all of those will actually still be open and doing something in the background. Obvious examples of those working would be a music app still playing, while common examples of not opened but displayed would be, well ...... with a few exceptions, pretty much everything else.
That said, it is a corrective action for a hung or crashing app as what you are describing is one of the two ways to Force Quit an application; by going through and deleting all of them you actually will also do this and might fix whatever the issue is. However, the app causing the problem is normally going to be at the very top of the apps displayed in the MT Tray.
While I appreciate your input, I never mentioned anything about deleting apps. just closing them. Also If apps show up in the multitasking bar if that is what you call it when you double click the home screen, are active apps. Having multiple apps running at the same time will evently not only crash your ipod, ipad, or iphone, It will also quickly drain your battery as well. However you are off topic here. Thanks again for your input.
OMG!!! It WORKED THANK YOU EVERYONE! But what happens if the problem reappears?
