Factory Unlock Iphone 4 Activation required before leaving Canada ???

I have asked my friend to bring in factory unlocked iphone 4 which he purchased from downtown Vancouver Apple store for $740 CAD for 16GB so my question is is it necessary to activate the set before leaving canada to make sure its really factory unlocked or its not important and for sure that it will definatly will be Factory unlocked set..Plz help as im really worried ...

If your phone is officially unlocked, it will activate with any supported carrier's sim. You have nothing to worry about.

It means that for the price of $740 paid to the apple store for 16GB it will definatly be factory unlocked ?? Im asking this question as i have read some posts here where ppl paid that amount and bring the set to their country and found that it was not actually unlocked set....So please clarify it...

Clarify what? It's like being pregnant, you either are or are not. No one here can tell you that in fact your phone is officially unlocked. If you're concerned(you obviously are), activate the phone in Canada at the store, start swapping sims, if no errors, you're good to go.

To be honest, the best way to know is to deal with the carrier as it is the carrier that unlocks the phone and they will provide you with all the info about the process. Apple doesn't unlock them.

All this should be made very clear to the person buying BEFORE buying. If he is unsure or they are not clear to him about the process, then don't buy it.

He already bought it from Apple store and he asked for the factory unlocked phone and for that they said its for $740...and i also believe that its the full price of the phone which are unlocked...But again little curious after reading some posts here..

Have your friend start swapping sim cards, no error messages means you're good to go. If not unlocked, you'll get an error message.

Yes, but if officially unlocked it will activate with any supported sim. Of course, if not officially unlocked, this will lock it to the first carriers sim used to activate the phone. Best to find out now.

So it means he has to activate the phone with the itunes first and activate in order to see if is unlocked or not...So thats might be difficult for him to do that as he on vacccation and dont have his system with him..so how can he sync with itunes to activate it...

You can use any computer to activate the phone. Have your friend go to an Apple store & activate the phone there. Then, start swapping sim cards. You'll find out immediately if the phone is officially unlocked or not.
