You can uninstall the update by removing the /Library/Printers/EPSON folder in your home directory and the /Library/Caches/Epson folder. After doing this and removing the scanner from Print & Fax Prefs, try running the update again, restarting, and re-adding the scanner.

    Hope this helps.

i have just found out that the update is for epson perfection 3590 only and not for epson perfection 3590 photo which is mine. i still have to do what you suggest , correct ?

You should probably remove these files to be safe, so there aren't drivers for both printers, and then reinstall the drivers for the 3590 photo.

thank you . i cannot make any progress. i am thinking to reinstall the os x .i deleted the epson folder from hd/library/printers & the epson app from user/library/printers though i did not find any cache of epson.when i plug the scanner the mac recognizes it but still when i operate it it gives me error.

ok fixed.i reinstalled snow leopard which got me to 10.6.3 and from there i updated to 10.6.6.the printers' drivers are back to normal. the epson scanner i use is functioning.the only downside is that in my permissions' verification appers this line Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
according to apple it is harmless http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?
but it stalls disc utility & it needs more time to perform its tasks
    thank you

Unfortunately this procedure did not resolve the issue for me. I am running an Epson Perfection 2580 (2480/2580) and this printer driver has rendered the unit useless.

    The Apple application fires
The scanner warms (2 minutes? Seriously? This unit use to fire nearly instantaneously using the Epson software/drivers)
The overview scan cycle begins then immediately returns:
"Scanner reported an error. An error occurred during scanning."

From what I can see the only update here has been the addition of two new fields in the scanning software: Size (H and W) and Rotation Angle.

Unquestionably valuable fields since 10.6 and Apples printer drivers have rendered the OEM Software useless, but this patch has not been worth it for me. And reloading OSX is not a good solution either.

Still working it through but two days trying to roll back to a useable system is extremely frustrating.

Excuse me asking, but why not use the drivers that Epson supplies?
  • Gilbert Blankenship1 Level 1 Level 1 (105 points)
Tried that already. One of the previous Apple updates overrides them. The Epson drivers and software are not supported (non-functioning) under the latest update of Mac OSX 10.6.6. At least on my machine.

The OEM software for this unit was pretty nice. I would prefer using it. Im trying to roll everything back without a full reload of 10.6 and will post any success. Otherwise - assume continued failure.

I have also initiated a fast track support call. Was called back within 1 minute, then disconnected almost as soon.

    Still running it to ground.

I am also using Epson printer and scanner I don't have any problem. If I recall right I don't let the system installer install all the various printer drivers. They crave a lot of space and I rather install the specific driver for my printer and scanner.

    hello.
is it possible , if you are using the time machine , to get back to the day before the installation of the update & recover the folder of the epson printer from hd/libary/printers/ ? or maybe find a way to regain something through this procedure ?
did you try to repair permissions with disc utility?

    hydrofal78,

Unfortunately due to the size of my system Im not using Time Machine - instead i'm relying on an 8TB drobo unit. So no recoverable archive to roll back to.

Repair permissions was one of the first things I did after the initial update (always as a matter of course). I executed it again as soon as I noticed the problem.

I just got off the phone with Rose and Ted at Apple Tech Support and they were very helpful. We connected the unit to a secondary computer (MacBook pro) which never had OEM software installed to verify that it is a driver issue. Ted got me in contact with Epson (as the Driver 2.5.1 update came from them to be delivered through Software Update).

I'm online with them now - they don't appear to be aware of the issue.

During a tech support call with Larry from Epson, I was informed that the "driver update from apple" probably (I don't recall the exact word but i will use "ruined') my scanner. He stated that the update probably altered scanner settings and has rendered it inoperable.

When I began to question him - rather pointedly about how to fix it - adding that I too worked in tech support, we were disconnected.

No, I didn't get violent or use bad language. I was however curt. Attempts to reconnect with Epson Tech Support have failed (call isn't going through) and neither have they me back.

I have partial resolution now - but cannot really explain why since the previous protocol didn't work. Apparently something wasn't deleted, and the second round through caught it.

    1. Download and execution of the Scan Uninstaller from Epson
    2. Download and installation of EPSON13969.DMG (latest ICA drivers)
    3. Download and installation of EPSON11927.DMG (latest twain drivers)
    4. Deletion of Epson 2580 scanner from Preferences Printer/Fax
    5. Installation of Epson 2580 scanner from Preferences Printer/Fax

    Now:
    1. Image capture fails (with the previously noted return)
    2. Epson Scan has been re-installed and is working again
2a. previous to the Epson Driver 2.5.1 update it was not working.
    3. Epson Scan and Save is not functioning either with or without options
    4. Scanner response is instantaneous without any warmup period

One has to assume that Apple's efforts to support "AirPrint" has generated much angst.

I think it is pretty obvious to anyone reading this Print/Fax/Scan forum that the 10.6.6 update and in many cases the following Printer Update (mine was for my printer - Epson - only) has done "amazing" things to printing/scanning under OSX.

Since AirPrint only supports a small number (17) of HP printers, one has to wonder what was done to implement that support which resulted in this detriment to other printing.

Apple's IOS list of AirPrint 101 supported printers.

Most of Apple Support's documents about AirPrint refer folks to this forum for help...

Fortunately, my Epson CX6000 continues to work via the Airport Express.
