Quicktime Freezes/Locks Up System

Hey all

I've recently been having a problem with Quicktime X in which it either displays a garbled video, causing massive slowdown, or freezing up and locking up the system entirely. This is not a problem with the Quicktime app itself, but its components, as the problem also affects iMovie and iTunes. My proposed solution to this is to remove quicktime and its components and reinstall them, but I have a few questions.....

A. If I extract the Quicktime Player.app file from the install disk (via Pacifist), will it also install the components, like codecs?

B. If I delete these system files, will a Combo Update of my OSX software replace them, or will they still be gone?

MacBook (Core2 Duo 2.4ghz), Mac OS X (10.6.4)

No. The QT Player is a graphic interface application only. The QT framework is itself embedded within the OS. This framework and basic component package is installed by the OS installer. Additional components are either user installed or installed by Pro video editing installers.

Probably not unless the "Combo Update" completely replaces the entire system and includes its own component installer.
