My openoffice.org keeps giving me an error message saying my Java (JRE) is defective. Now I know absolutely nothing about JAVA. Have no idea what it is and therefore, have no idea what I should do. Need help please. Can't access some of my documents now because of this.
Has anyone else gone to the site recommended here to fix the issue? I can only get so far and still can't get it fixed. I'm so frustrated. Can't get my documents open.
I suggest that you go to "wOpen Office.org" menu tab (upper left) -> Preferences -> Java, and turn "Use a Java runtime environment" off. This should disable Java, and hopefully you can open your files. On my Mac, I can't fine a Java runtime environment at all, and am looking for it....
There must be a way to reload Java (or any program). On my old Linux system, I would remove the installation file, and reload it. However, I don't yet know how to do this on Mac.
Thank you; I did try that, but it comes back with "The folder you selected does not contain a java real time environment". However, I can see "java" in it, but not "jre", which is what I think Open Office is looking for. Thanks! - Andy
No, I'm using OO 3.2.1; I just checked updates, and see that 3.3 is out. I'll try loading it. I did follow the threads, and tried linking JavaVM to .../Frameworks/JavaVM, and it works -- and is stable so far. I'll download 3.3 and see how that works.
