Apple Service Diagnostic/Kernel panic

I'm trying to boot into the Apple Service Diagnostic that came with AppleCare training but as it is reading from the disk I always get a kernel panic. Any ideas?

MacBook Pro 17", Mac OS X (10.6.6)
