Q: Mac classic enviroment is not supported on OSX

Hello everyone,

For my brothers birthday i bought en game that we used to play a long time ago (Wolfenstein 3D for macintosch 1992). I thought it would work on my macbook pro but it isn't, i get the error that the "Mac Classic enviroment is not supported enymore".

So i started to look at google and i saw it isn't possible to installal Mac OS in Vmware, but there is a program called sheepshaver that runs OS 9.

I downloaded sheepshaver and after the installation i open the program, and OS 9 starts up.

I started the game and it worked for like 2 min, after that sheepshaver freezes and i need to force it to stop. I found on internet that it ask a lot from your Mac but my macbook have 2GB free memory and the CPU is 30% (so i got some free room). It is only when i play the game that it freezes.

Now is the question of anyone else know something i can do to get the game working?

And we don't want to play the PC version, we wan't to play this version.

Thanx in Advance

Most classic OS games do not work properly in classic mode while booted into Tiger 10.4 & below, or in Leopard/Snow Leopard using sheepshaver. This is because the game software controls certain aspects of the Mac computer hardware. But this hardware control is not possible when booted in OS X.

You need to buy an older Mac running OS 9.x.

I was searching on the internet and i found that OSX 10.4 (Tiger) is compatibel with the Classic enviroment.

So if i could get the OSX 10.4 version on my macbook pro than i could be able to play the game.

But the question is than would this work and are al the versions of 10.4.X compatibel with Classic enviroment?

You can't install an OS earlier than the one originally installed on your MacBook. Also, OS 9 is not compatible with an Intel processor.

The Wolfenstein games were open-sourced a while back and can now be downloaded for free. There's no need to deal with Classic, just download a recent build.
