Listening through headphones

Hello, I have a Samsung HDTV with no headphone jack and I would like to be able to listen to the content on my apple tv on my Bose headset. I tried to connect an rca to 3.5mm cable to a 3.5mm extension and then to my Bose headphones, but there is no sound. Should I use the optical audio? I am not sure what that does. Any ideas? Thanks a lot

What is your setup now? Are you simply connected to the TV or do you have audio output through a receiver as well? If it is the latter then just plug in headphones there.

RCA is analogue, Optical is digital. Not sure of the possibilities but would need to look at adapters and make sure you can return if it doesn't work.

If you have an A/V receiver with an optical or coax digital input and a headphone output, connect an optical or coax digital cable between the ATV2 and the receiver, and plug the headphones into the receiver.

If not, you need an external digital-to-analog audio converter. Search for them on Amazon. It looks like they start around $50. Make sure you get one with a volume control, if your headphones don't have one. The ATV2 has no way to control the volume.
