How to get rid of squares/rectangles on Aperture 3?

You have most likely turned on the "Show focus points" feature inadvertently. Toggle it on/off w. "{Alt}+F". The command is on the "View" menu.

Those are showing the focus points from your camera. The hi-lighted ones are the ones that were active when you took the pic.

Go to the metadata tab of the library inspector. In the upper right conner you'll see a few icons one of which looks like the what you're seeing on the screen. Mouse over it and click it.

I think you meant ⌥ F (not t)

Thanks for setting the record right. My bad -- sorry. I've put a request to the hosts to correct my mistake.

(Now if Aperture would analyze the images and highlight the in-focus areas (Capture One does this, iirc) -- that would be super. I focus and re-compose all the time.)

With my 50 year old eyes, I should really use this feature more than I do.
