Arrow keys anyone???

I have the feeling that you don't know the kinds of system files I'm talking about, because I certainly can't access them through iTunes.

You did previously write, "your app files".

Regardless, care to enlighten us as to which system/app files you are talking about?

First, my comment was an aside to another commenter here and it has nothing to do with the tread, so now we're derailing a bit.

And you're arguing semantics -- yes, the app files that are hidden to users -- not the link to the apps -- which is what you are seeing on iTunes. You know how files work on most computers, including the iPad, correct? There are folders and subfolders of documentation and user files and art, etc. Sometimes we would like to copy or backup a file, yet we are not granted access to them unless we use a third-party program. I said system files next so that you would understand the level of files I was talking about. I hope you feel enlightened now. 🙂

That's odd -- the arrow keys on my Logitech keyboard work fine. Sorry you have that issue!

No, I see the app files used by apps on the iPhone.

How to copy files from an iOS app to your computer

1. Be sure to select the appropriate application in the Apps list under File Sharing.
2. Drag and drop files from the Documents list to a folder or window on your computer to copy them to your computer, or…
3. Select the file or files you want to copy to your computer from the Documents list and click the "Save to…" button. Select only files that are supported by the iOS app. Refer to the iOS app’s documentation to determine which file formats it supports. Locate the folder on your computer to which you want to copy the files and click the Choose button. The selected files will be copied to the selected folder on your computer immediately

I appreciate the help, but no, the "File Sharing" section in iTunes doesn't show all of the system files, Of the hundreds of apps we have on our ipads, only a few are listed under "File Sharing" and of those, all we can see are things like PDF files that have been transfered from the computer. And yes, we have the latest software. And yes, we know what we're doing (I'm on the IT staff in my office). If you download a program like iExplorer, you'll see what I mean by full system- and user-file access. But thanks.

Yes Cheryl you are right you won't be able to copy files using file sharing until that Application allows that (Which in turn means the files which can be read by a computer can only be transferred using file sharing ).

You just cannot have access to all the Applications data from an iOS device to your computer .

These are two difference platforms.

There isn't a problem. I was just making a comment about seeing all the data files within an app, which we needed to do to copy some documents and user files from one iPad to another. I was able to do it using third-party software. My comment was in reply to another wayyyy back -- just that it is frustrating that I can't plug the iPad into my computer and see all the files WITHOUT using 3rd-party software.

You do say "You just cannot have access to all the Applications date from an iOS device to your computer." This isn't true, I can do it using iExplorer -- at least we can see most of the folders and system files. But it would be nice to just have access to it without jumping through hoops.

(If you REALLY need details because it's just killing you all, LOL, here is one recent example: my husband created a fun "world" in Minecraft. My son wanted a copy of it on his iPad. Had to be able to see the file system and go deep into user files to do that. Did it somewhat easily, but only with 3rd-party software installed in my husband's computer. When we have done similar things using laptops, phones, etc, we never had a problem just plugging the device into the computer where we can see all the files and folders within an app -- just not with the iPad)

So there is no problem -- just frustration. We can go back to the arrow-keys discussion now 😉

Even though the idea of moving the cursor in iOS using the magnifier feature has been mentioned before, (by holding a finger on the text), this is the first time I have learned about this.

So, because of your posts after many years of using iOS devices I know how to move a cursor around using the bubble feature.

* The problem imo is that Apple does not clearly promote this cursor moving feature in their support / tutorial documents.

A Google search about arrow keys or moving a cursor in iOS will get results for sometimes lengthy web discussion but no Apple support doc will be on the first page of the search.

The existence of several arrow keys threads on Apple discussions imo shows that Apple has not sufficiently promoted the bubble cursor moving option.

It doesn't matter how it is promoted/advertised. People in this thread say it is not good enough or they don't care. They simply want arrow keys.

With millions of users, someone will complain about something.

The "Edit Text" section/sentence you mentioned is on page 24.

From Table of Contents it is under "Basics" / "Type Text".

Considering the obscurity of the feature (and its importance) I believe Apple should devote an individual support document for this.

Those are arrow keys on the iOS default keyboard for the iPhone 6 Plus and iOS 8. I don't have an iPad anymore but I'm sure it has the same.
