iPad speaker wont work on some apps

I have an iPad 3G, the built in speaker will work on the audio, pandora, but not games. I have tried several things to correct this, Apple wants $30+ to fix. Any reason this would happen?

Make sure you don't have the system sounds mute switch on. It used to be the rotation lock switch before the OS upgrade. It's the little slider switch next to the volume control.

It is on the right side of the iPad if the circle/home button is on the bottom facing you.......

If it's still under warranty why would they charge you 30 bucks to fix it if it's a problem with the iPad? Did I miss something here?

I'm having the same issue with my iPad 2. Sound with videos and such, but no sound in games.

Have you checked that notification mute isn't on (it doesn't affect iPod or Videos apps, but will affect most games and other apps) : depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To it's either set by the switch on the right hand side or via the taskbar - more info here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
