Macbook Pro 13 won't boot from DVD

I have a hard disk issue and am trying to boot from the DVD in order to repair the disk. The macbook pro was purchased right before Christmas 2010, and the dvd that came with it includes OS X 10.5.2. I have used Software Update and the macbook pro is now running OS X 10.6.6. Should I be able to boot this machine off of the 10.5.2 DVD?

It will not boot. I press the Option key and it lists both the hard drive and the DVD as bootable. When I select the DVD, the screen turns grey, the DVD spins for awhile, stops, and sits there forever.

If you are running Snow Leopard you will have to boot off the Snow Leopard install DVD to run your Disk Utility. If this is not an option, you could download AppleJack.

Disk 1 of 2 of the installation disks is what I tried to boot from, this DVD says that it is OS X 10.5.2, 10.6.6 is installed on the macbook hard drive The macbook recognizes this as a bootable dvd, but it will not boot. Screen turns grey, DVD drive spins and then it just sits there.

Your MacBook came with 10.6.3 installed. The install disk that came with it should be 10.6.3. Your Mac will not boot from the 10.5.2 disk. You need to call Apple and get the correct disk. (Apple Customer Relations: 800-767-2775)
