Q: relink a proxy bundle

Hi

Whilst trying to get clustering to work I changed the wrong permission somewhere and killed my xserve (yes its that easy - dont ever try and share your system disk if you dont know what you are doing!).
My latest FCServer backup was found to be corrupted (all older versions just wouldnt work - the database just wouldnt mount). I had to start again. I still have a 1.5TB proxy bundle which seems to mean nothing to my freshly installed FCServer catalogue. Is there anyway i can relink this contentbase asset to my new catalogue? or shall I delete it and start a fresh? (edit: i would prefer not to because there are some proxies that are previews for assets that have long since been archived and are great for pitches etc. it would be nice not to have to break out our LTO storage!)

while i'm here... and its a long shot. maybe someone has some thoughts on why my catalogue saves from before the server was killed don't work. I expect its something configure differently in the new server environment but maybe its fixable? Basically when i restore it all seems good but then FCserver won't start and i just get a 'Comms channel' error. All the paths are the same as they were (media in a RAID over fibrechannel, file paths with same names)

Any ideas appreciated.

Best

Dan

If you're starting from a new database, your old proxies.bundle content cannot be used.

In troubleshooting your issues with starting the database after restoring from backup, you might want to review the data in this article:

    Thanks D

That makes sense. We did re-import our user profiles actually. but it didn't seem to make any difference.

When I reinstalled the server the admin user (which is the user who does all the admin os and FCServer in our environment) was called something different. I changed it back to the original name but it didnt seem to make any difference so i moved on. perhaps though now i think of it, simply renaming it wasn't the same as it actually being the same user. Bar the names, the accounts are pretty much left as default but even so maybe there were user attributes i didn't copy.

I'll bear it in mind next time i have to reinstall. for now our database has just about come back to were it was (although i have to check all my projects out and relink thier media the the server again, and recreate ALL my proxies yikes. i hope i can get clustering working....

    Thanks for your help!

Another question along the same vein.  We have FCServer and a 3 XServe cluster for generating proxies and encoding deliverables.  We have not been happy with the stability, or lack there of, of qMaster and the cluster etc...  We are exploring the idea of using the same XServes and installing Episode Pro and taking advantage of their recently added clustering option, in hopes that it will be more stable.

This solution works great for encoding files for web delivery etc... however it does not integrate with FCServer encoding proxies.  Is there a way to attach/link an encoded file to a source file in FCServer.  Even if it's manual.  If I can figure out how to do it manually, I may be able to automate it another way.

It's the same scenario as if for some reason FCServer looses it's connection to a proxy file.  It's still out there, but FCServer doesn't recognize it.  Is there a fail safe/manual solution for this?

    Thanks
