Ipad does not connect via bluetooth

Just purchased an ipad to go along with my imac and iphone, i was told they would all connect up via bluetooth. It doesn't seem to support connection to either imac or iphone.
Crazy spending all this money on apple gear and it wont talk to each other!

WHY IS THIS SO?

I mac, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

The iPad does not have the bluetooth profile to connect to a Mac or iPhone. I'm not sure who told you that this was possible but it is not.
