How can I move the tracks in the mixer window around?

I am trying to organize my tracks in the mixer window, but no what I try, the tracks aren't moving. I tried it with the hand tool and when pulling it over the tracks, a green square box appears that is selecting the tracks, but I cannot move them to another place. So how can I do this?

You can't. It's one of the most archaic and frustrating holdovers from the old days. Hopefully they clean this up in 10, and join the rest of the DAWS here in 2011.

One also hopes that they stop allowing Logic to "help" us so much, i.e, allowing channels to rocket sideways across the screen when put into an automation mode, thereby screwing up the order you had set. Ugh.

Came here by searching for "move mixer tracks". Really weird why this can´t be fixed by apple. I have 3 kick tracks and in the mixer they are spread widly across my 50 track + mixer window. In the arrange they are after each other. Color codes and grouping saves the day somehow, but being able to slide them together in the mixer window would just be so sweet. Other DAW´s has this funtionality allready?

Hey WizardSongs,

If you're trying to move buses, control-click on the track in the mixer and select "Create/Select Arrange Track"—by default, the key command is control+T. Now the bus will show up in the arrange window. You can move that around, and the mixer will reflect the changes when in 'Arrange' view, which it seems you have set up.

Bonus tip: this also works with Output tracks, so you can get a Master fader in the arrange window.
