Error Code 1601???

Error Code 1601???

I have attempted to update the software on my iPod Touch 2nd Gen, however mid-update it told me the usb cannot be identified and my iPod is not stuck on nothing! The same thing happened with the 4.0 update however I managed to solve that by restoring on a different computer.
This time I have had no such luck, I have uninstalled and reinstalled all iTunes components and on BOTH computers i am told i have encoutered a 1601 error. However on the Apple help pages there is no such thing as an error 1601 when looking at specific error code!
So i was wondering if someone could tell me what this is and how to solve it?

Error 1601 is listed at the beginning in this article but I can't find any thing in the body of the article. I also searched the forum for the last year and only received, besides yours, one hit that is unanswered. Based on the article I would start with disabling the security software an the computer.

Did you make sure that you removed all related Apple software, including Apple Mobile Device Service?

I have followed the steps and the USB seems to be recognised. However I then attempted to restore the iPod again and im now gettin a 1604 error. I have been through the troubleshooting on there but the problem still exists?
Any advice?

If this does not work, try to delete the iphone software file located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates to make iTunes download a new copy when you connect in recovery mode. Maybe the file stored on your PC is damaged.

Search for the iphone software folder or any ipsw file. Then copy it to a safe place, in case you're going to use it again. Delete the original file and start to restore.

All I have in my Apple folder in programme files is "Apple Application Support", "CoreFP" and "Mobile Device Support" folders...
I cant find an ipsw file, is there anything else it could be??

Hey, thanks so much for your help. I was trying on both computer and each one gave me a 1601 error. However after fixing that on my laptop and it showing a 1604 error I didnt think to try it on the other computer aswell. I just have and it successfully restored my iPod, then connecting it BACK into my laptop it was recognised and re-added all my music and apps.
