Resticting Nude Photos from Flickr!?!?

I am a photographer and have several nude photos on my Flickr stream. My Apple TV won't show photos that are marked restricted in Flickr.

My parental controls are turned off. Who the **** asked apple to censor my content?

apple is NOT censoring them.

the flickr app on the appletv can only view PUBLIC images. your restricted images are not public, thus the appletv has no access to view them.

if you want appletv to be able to view them, you need to have them un-restricted and be made PUBLIC.

I think Flickr's "public" stream is G-rated because it tries to comply with local laws in places like Thailand (so the website isn't banned in such places). However, Apple could provide a means to log-in to your account so that you can see all pictures available to you.

This is probably more a case of laziness than heavy-handedness on Apple's part. Still annoying though and my initial thoughts were also that Apple was censoring. Given Jobs' publicly stated distaste for "****" on iDevices, it's a reasonable (though apparently incorrect) conclusion to jump too.

what make you think it's all apple? maybe flickr didn't allow access from the appletv other then what is provided.

your conclusion is not valid as i could easily go to flickr in safari and view any sort of image i wanted to.

I realize that Apple is not censoring the pics. Actually, Flickr isn't either. It's the difference between public and account streams.

My point was Apple slipped up on the app design. The app should allow you to log-in to your Flickr account, just as the Netflix app allows you to log-in to Netflix. You would then be able to see all images available to you, just as you can with any Flickr app on other iDevices. Instead, it just allows you to load the public stream of any user. Allowing access to account streams would nice thing for Apple to address in an update.

again, you assume the fault is with apple, it might just be the case the flickr did not allow the required access to you want.

And why would Flickr restrict account access for ATV to public streams and allow full access for every other device in the world? I mean it's possible, but considering how Flickr encourages access it doesn't make sense.

I'm not bashing Apple here. I think AppleTV is a great device. This is just a way I think it could be even better.

who knows, but neither you nor I can say for sure who is responsible.
what other devices (in the same class as the appletv) have full log on rights to Flickr?

No idea. I don't even know what devices could be considered to be in the same class. I do know that iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch all have multiple apps which allow access to full streams. I can't find any indication here or over at Flickr that ATV has been singled out for limited access. Can you give me a reason why access would be denied ATV? I took a quick look at the Flickr forums: the take-home from there was because the app doesn't authorize, it only can show public.

I do know that Flickr encourages the use of the account streams. They also require you authorize the accessing app (which requires a roundtrip through a page on the website). Perhaps, it's not technically feasible to display the authorization screen, but I find that highly unlikely.

In any case, it would be an improvement that I'd like to see, and I've left feedback on the ATV product page indicating so.

Regards,

George
