I have two Ipod Touches, a 3rd Gen 32G and a 4th Gen 64G. I have tried to connect them to any of my 3 home computers (2 Wintel machines with Win7, one Mac with OSX 10.6.6), with all of the different cords that I have, to no avail. I have reinstalled ITunes, reloaded, restarted, etc. but the Ipods will not show up, either on ITunes, or on the browser. The cords do allow the IPods to charge. I have reinstalled drivers, used the Ipod 4th Gen as a camera, and all other advice I can find, but cannot find why I cannot connect. I have been able to connect to all three computers in the past, but when I went to back up this month, it suddenly will not work. Any other advise out there or known software conflicts that have arisen in the last month? (I have only updated software, no new installs)
Welcome to the discussions,
did you already try to connect in recovery mode, shown here?:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 Assuming that you have almost the same 3rd party apps on both devices, maybe some apps cause this problem.
If you can connect to one device in recovery mode, see if you can restore "as new ipod" (without using the backup afterwards), and if this changes the situation.
Thank you for the welcome.
Yes, I have tried to connect in recovery mode, but the IPod is not recognized on the computer (ITunes does not detect IPod).
I have not added any new apps to the 3rd Gen, while I have added some to the 4th Gen, so the apps are not the same.
Yes, I removed it on all 3 computers, as well as removing it with ITunes, and other accociated software found in the support docs. I have tried all of the suggestions in the other threads, and support docs at Apple. The only real change that was consistent with all three computers and both IPods was upgrading the OS for the IPods to 4.2.1 and getting the latest version of ITunes.
I have followed each step to the letter. I finally got my Wintel machine to recognize that the IPod was there, but cannot be recognized, and I cannot update the driver since it doesn't accept it as an IPod.
I too am having an issue similar to this. When I try to connect my ipod to my mac, it doesn't get recognized. It will show the large red battery for a bit then switch to the apple logo and continues to alternate but that is all that it does.
