My headphones wont work.

I've only had my macbook pro for 3 months and now the headphones wont work. I was wondering, is there a way to fix it on my own? If I were to go to Apple, would they fix it free of charge or do I pay? How much would I pay?

By the way, I have the 3 year warranty, but the man who sold me my mac said that the rules will change in january 2011, so I'm not sure if everything is free of charge.

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

If you bought your MBP new three months ago, it's still under its standaard one-year warranty, and any defect in it will be repaired free of charge. Your AppleCare plan extends the warranty for two more years, for a total coverage period of three years from the date of purchase. The fellow who told you that was going to change was misinformed, or else you misunderstood what he was telling you.
