Create chapters in iDVD

I have already asked a similar thing in iMovie forum, but then thought maybe here is better..

I have one movie on one file captured from a dv cam and want to burn it to a DVD

Since iDVD wont let me get rid of that menu system and just play the movie then i thought I may as well split sections of it in to Clickable chapters on the first menu screen.

So how can this be done in iDVD...or do i have to go and cut the original movie in to individual projects in iMovie first , then export as movies, then drag back in to iDVD. I tried the import function of iDVD...but the import seem sto play...but there is not menu item for it..Looks like I can only get a menu item by dragging the movie clip in from the media browser

thanks

Ahh...now that is the thing with Mac..always a ' not so obvious ' way to do something. but easy when you know how.

I was trying to drag the movie in and get rid of the menu.

A 'One Step' is under way now.

A mate has a load of VHS tapes..but no player and he mentioned this to me...before I could think..I said.."yes...easy I can do that'...what I should have said was ..."I have the equipment to do that.but no idea how to do it".

Beavis & Butthead videos..stuff like that.

it would be nice to create the menus so he can jump to individual episodes on the video but...maybe that can wait for another day.

it is burning away now..30 mins to go to see if it worked

iMovie => iDvd will certainly work for you, I'm certain of this. However, here's what I use. It's much faster. Costs about the same as iLife Software. Gives me great quality. And it's done in one touch with automated interval chapters and menus.

Btw, This is not intended to go off on a "tangent" but simply to point out alternate time saving and cost effective options.

Ummm new shiny toys....no stop it...got enough as it is...Cant say it is Cost effective...as it would involve spending more money, but probably easier..

Am sure there must be an easy way here too. I have loads of software, and computing power...and 8TB of HDD space...just never learnt to use it yet...iMovie...iDVD, FCE, FCP, and FC studio...OK, so I 'borrowed' the last two of a mate..who makes pro films...a local film maker...but they are way too involved for me.

Well. the burn has finished, but it does still have the menu..
The menu is only there if you hit the menu button on the remote, and it does play immediately.
It comes up named as 'One Step DVD rather than the name of the mov file, and the menu displays the default 'rotating menu' theme, with the default menu title words in it.

Suppose it will be as good as it gets without getting too complicated

It is iDVD version 7.1.1 (1150) iLife 09.

The menu does not appear when you first put the DVD in to play.
But, if you then, on the DVD player (either a hardware player or the built in Mac DVD player) press the menu button or title button, the 'Revolution Main' default menu appears.

It is the same as if you create a new iDVD project, view the 'Map' and drag the clip to the first section in the tree to the "Drag content here to play automatically when the disc is inserted" box.

The only other way I had seen to do what I want ... is to drag the mov file to the ffpmegX convertor and do it some how like that...can't find that thread now.
