I am having trouble figuring out how to download a movie source as a file when a QuickTime movie is being played within a browser using QuickTime X. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you.

One option is, while the clip is playing, go to Safari menu and click on Window. Then go down to activity and click on that. Then look for the large file that is downloading and double click on that. Your Mac should start downloading the original file.
Doesn't work all the time, it depends on how the page itself was constructed, but usually it works.

You may wanna try, if using FireFox, Download Helper. Adding DownloadHelper as Firefox extension will allow you to download many types of browser embedded videos. I hope it helps.
