Not syncing all songs on playlists. Hmm. What's wrong.

iTunes is not syncing all songs on my playlists with my devices. No changes have been made recently. The PC is a 5 year old Dell, with Itunes on it the whole time. It has the latest itunes version. My devices are a 160 gig Classic, and 2 iPhone 4's. All devices have the latest ios. I synced yesterday like i have hundreds of times before, and each playlist is missing 1 or two songs. Yes, they are all checked in itunes. I've tried both "sync all songs in library", and "sync select playlists". Same Result. Any guesses?

I am having the same problem, the songs are in my play list but wont play. I restarted my phone, no change. I removed the playlist and then added it back and now the songs wont tranfer to my iphone. It is only certain artists across multiple albums and playlists. I even tried just adding the artist to the phone and no luck. I have purchased all the songs either on CD or through the iTunes store. I am using current verions of Lion and iTunes on my iMac and iOS5 on my iphone 4s and syncing via wire.

The songs are on my iMac and they play just fine they will not sync over to my phone. This is very frustrating, one song was set as my alarm and so my alarm did not go off..... arrggghhh!

I noticed last night my iPad didn't have this issue. Strange. Then I checked my iPhone this morning and it still had missing tracks, but when I forced the device to sync (via wifi) it picked up all the missing content. My guess is it is an iMusic glitch (again, I don't use this service, but I suspect if I've bought anything through iTunes that I am considered a subscriber by default at some level). For my device, the problem is solved...for now. I'll check my daughter's device later tonight. Good luck!

Jeremiah Weed,

It looks like a bug.

On your device music list there are problematic files but you can't play them (an exclamation mark probably appears).

1. You need to remove/delete problematic songs/albums from your mobile device (iPhone/iPad) and from iTunes, having copies of them somewhere else on your computer.

2. Sync your device with iTunes - this should remove any residual info about the songs/albums on your mobile device.

3. Import the files/albums you have a problem with into iTunes again.

4. Sync your device again (or copy) to have the problematic files/albums you want back in your mobile device.

5. Let me know if it worked.

I do not have an exclamation marks anywhere, either in itunes or on the ios devices. I have seen this in the past and that is not currently the issue.

I appriciate your reply. it started after the latest itunes update / latest 5.0.1 patch. And it's only a problem with iPHone4 and iPad2 but not iPod Nano. I have tried your fix and that does not help. I beleive it is a problem either with the latest iOS update 5.0.1 or with the latest itunes update. I'm guessing a problem with 5.0.1 becuase my iPod Nano is not experiencing the problem.

It literally started deleting songs from the playlists after updating 5.0.1. I'm sure i'm not the only one with this problem.

I'm having the same problem as you Jeremiah Weed. in my itunes window, the playlists show all the songs that i put in that playlist. lets say about 120 songs in my "Rock" playlist. i have my itunes set to sync Entire Library. i disconnect my iphone 4 (with the most recent 5.0.1 Version) from the computer, look at the playlist and theres only 6 songs. ***. ive tried manually managing the music and automatically and nothing has worked. this is def a bug/glitch/problem with the new 5.0 + firmware versions. APPLE FIX THIS S*** I NEED MY MUSIC ON MY PHONE

Might have found a solution, it just worked for me but im thinking that the newwest update 5.0 or 5.0.1 made it so all the songs that arent 128 KBPS arent getting sync'd onto your iphone or w/e. i just checked the "convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC" which can be found if you Click your Device, then in the "Summary" tab, scroll down to where you'll see an OPTIONS section. click the convert check box and watch how many songs are converted. then they all sync'd onto my iphone np hope this works for y'all. let me know

TO Jeremiah Weed

If you connect your device to your computer, in iTunes, in DEVICES tab when you click MUSIC, you can see all the songs from your device, right?

Is there that problematic song/album?

If yes, this is the problem. iTunes doesn't copy anything from your comp disc, as iTunes thinks the songs/albums are already there (lest's call'em 'dead index').

If you want to play a song in that device tab it goes all right unless you want to play 'dead index'.

So tell me what do you see in you DEVICE > Music Tab.

247Firefighter,

I have tried checking and unchecking the "Convert...128kbps" in the Summary page, no luck.

mcfunthomas,

when I select DEVICE>Music it shows as it always has, the songs, artists, playlists... I have selected to place on the device.

I truely believe it's a problem with the latest updates, I've even tried removing all music from my iPhone4 and iPad2 and then put it back on, more than once, with no luck. All boxes are checked like they were before. I even resotred my iPad2 to default settings and reloaded everything with no luck.

A new problem I've found: the playlists, however incomplete, do not always play correctly. I i will select a playlist on the iPad2 and it will play the previous playlist selected, this is not how it used to work. It's truely in the street...

Apple, please fix this new playlist problem.

Playlists do not sync with iPhone4 and iPad2 correctly, many songs are missing that were there before, iPod Nano syncs perfectly though.

I appriciate all the attempts at help, I'm a very computer/software proficient person. I've built several computers, and can fix just about any registry/software problem. I just cant find a workaround for this current software problem. 😟

I am having a similar problem as of several days ago.

In my case, the playlist is 15 songs. 3 of them are automatically removed every time I sync my ipod 4th gen to my computer. It doesn't matter whether I created this playlist initially on my computer or on my ipod, and it is always the same 3 songs.

Maybe it is a coincidence, but I purchased these 3 songs at the same time via my ipod and tried to sync them to my computer via iTunes when I didn't have an internet connection. There was some kind of failure message and those three songs didn't make it onto my computer until I restored the internet connection and re-synced them.

Hmmm!

TEMPORARY SOLUTION:

After reading 247FireFighter's reply I tried UnChecking "Convert higher bit rat songs to 128 kbps AAC" and all songs were back on my playlists like they used to be. When I ReChecked it they were gone again, but it was not always the same tracks missing/added. Very Odd.

So, what hasn't worked (for iPhone4 and iPad2):

-Removing all music and readding it

-Restoring Device to Default and recreating it from a backup (tried on iPad2)

My iPod Nano has always worked correctly, it is only my iPhone4 and iPad2 that lost tracks on my Playlists recently. Probably after latest iTunes update or iOS 5.0.1.

NOTES:

Most of my music is greater than 128 kbps. There is no rhyme or reason, that I have found yet, why some songs are included and some are not, the missing songs do not directly correlate to songs that I have at >128kbps or at any bit rate, it also doesn't seem to matter if the songs are AAC or MP3, some work and some dont.

I wish I could say that all my songs greater than 128kbps are the ones not getting added anymore, it's not that. I wish I could also say that its all my MP3 songs that are that are not getting added anymore, it's not that either. Some add and some do not in both cases.

I don't like using up all the space required to keep songs at thier original bit rate >128 so this "Fix" is not a true solution. I guess we just have to wait for another update that will hopefully fix it....

Not syncing all songs on playlists. Hmm. What's wrong.
