Not syncing all songs on playlists. Hmm. What's wrong.

iTunes is not syncing all songs on my playlists with my devices. No changes have been made recently. The PC is a 5 year old Dell, with Itunes on it the whole time. It has the latest itunes version. My devices are a 160 gig Classic, and 2 iPhone 4's. All devices have the latest ios. I synced yesterday like i have hundreds of times before, and each playlist is missing 1 or two songs. Yes, they are all checked in itunes. I've tried both "sync all songs in library", and "sync select playlists". Same Result. Any guesses?

THIS ONLY CLEARS ITUNES STORE CACHE!

I would like to note that I have found another possible solution to this problem. My phone would skip over random songs in my library and not sync them. It was impossible to find out exactly which ones, but there was a difference of about 100 songs. I tried numerous things but here's what worked for me:

Update iTunes

Go into Preferences -> Advanced

Reset All Warnings

Reset iTunes Cache

Sync iPhone

Transfer Purchases from "iPhone" or "iPod" (if applicable)

It immediately put on the songs that were missing. No errors. No problems. Not sure why I needed to do that but it worked!!

THIS DOES NOT SAY "ITUNES CACHE." IT SAYS "ITUNES STORE CACHE."

I am happy to report I am now syncing my iPad 3 correctly. I tried all of the fixes above without success and in the process I added duplicates to many of my songs. When I first got my iPad I synced some music to it on my win7 PC because at the time I had OSX 10.4 on my iMac and it did not recognize the iPad. Since then I have upgraded to 10.6 and the new version of iTunes. The songs that were on my iPad were the thing that was keeping my iMac from from syncing with the iPad correctly and failed to populate the play lists. These songs are the same as those on the iMac but still caused the problem. I had to delete all of the music on the iPad first to make it work. The undocumented method to delete all music is to Go to Settings/General/Usage/Music, then slide your finger over "All Music" and it should come up with a button saying delete.

Now that music is empty it will sync correctly.

If you are not current, Update iTunes

If you are current Go into iTunes Preferences -Advanced

Reset All Warnings (this also changes the auto-sync setting for iPad etc)

You should change that setting to prevent unwanted syncs.

Reset iTunes Cache

Sync iPad

Apple:It shouldn't have to be that hard.

105 replies and 0 comments from anyone with real help that doesnt involve some extreme steps that SHOULD NOT be neccessary. There is clearly a bug that needs to be dealt with concerning the newest itunes and iphone iOS software. Please help so that we can use the device for its origincal purpose and listen the music we want to. I can only sync 1 song from any playlist I want and its absolute bologna (baloney).

Fix it please.

Seriously. Not cool.

Complete reset and restore of the phone. Thats the only thing that seems to work. I tried all these tricks and solutions and some even seemed to work temporarily but then songs that were supposed to be on the phone apeared as songs I could download from the cloud, when I clicked the circle would spin then nothing. and more of the same issue described prevoiously. Im still having the search issue where if I do a home screen search for a song, it appears, then I 'click' on it, nothing happens. 😐

Using song rating as criteria causes smart playlist sync issues?

I thought Match would be a great idea, but I still want a subset of my music physically on the phone. So then, even after I turned off Match, I've had issues with one of many smart playlists.

I have a habit of listening to recently added music on my iOS device and then rating it for further use.

I've had all other playlists sync except the one where I try to sync non-rated songs. So I can do recently added, not played, etc. I changed the size of the playlist, the name, etc but it did not help.

As soon as I add criteria of "less than 1 star" or "in the range of none to 1 star", the playlist stops syncing to my phone. I have no problems of transferring playlists that 3-starred, or 4- or 5-star music.

Does anyone else have this non-sync issue limited spefically to rating criteria with 0 stars?

FIXED MY SYNC PROBLEM:

Finally found out why all of my music wasn’t syncing….. After the short sync time, a box would come up stating that there were “errors” when syncing. They were 14 tracks that had been deleted, but were still somewhere in a playlist.

If your getting a sync error message at the end, and there was a problem with some tracks.

  • Take a screen shot of the “error” list.
  • Go to your Library, click on Music, then Playlists.
  • Search for and delete each individual track name from the "error" list.
  • Click on iPod and “Sync” again.

Pretty silly that it wouldn't just skip those tracks and sync the rest. Hope this helps.

For those who still have this issue,

Connect the device to the computer and view it in iTunes. Go to Music and uncheck Sync Music. This removes all the music from the device. Once that is done, go down to the "On my device" list and click on the Music tab there. If there is still music in this list, you have a "phantom" playlist. This prevents the songs found in the list from being synced to the device, as iTunes still thinks the songs are there. You'll have to enable "Manually manage Music and Videos" from the device's Summary page. Then, go back to the Music tab under "On my device" and select all the songs, right-click and choose Delete to remove the phantom songs. Then re-sync your music and they should all be on the device.

After having this same issue for months I finally got it working! Whatever songs you are trying to add to the device, completely delete the songs from your itunes library and then add them again to the library. Then add them to your device. Not sure what caused the issue but its as if there was a problem adding the items to the library the first time. I had to do this with MANY of my recent albums before I was able to get them added on to my ipod. Hope it works for others also!
