Activity windows shows "cancelled" for a .mpg file

When I paste a valid URL into Safari the Quicktime player opens within Safari but the status message reads: "Failed to open page (see Activity window for details)". The activity windows status column just reads: "cancelled" that that URL.

Pasting the URL into Firefox works w/o a problem.

I am using Safari 5 and SnowLeopard (with all the latest updates).

I would get a QT question mark ? ... but if I reloaded the page or Cmd-r then the video would then show fine.

The URL is valid, I don't get the ? and reloading does not help. Any other ideas as to what the problem might be?

There seems to be a bug in Safari with .mpg files that include a space in the file name:
* Safari issues a cryptic error, not even a file not found type error.
* Replacing the file name with a %20 does not work either.
* Safari works fine for *.mp4 files that include a space in the file name.

URL with a space fails:
http://www.wilhelmtell.org/images/Wilhelm Tell.org_web5.mpg

This URL also fails (but works in other browsers):
http://www.wilhelmtell.org/images/Wilhelm%20Tell.org_web5.mpg

URL w/o space in the file name works:
http://www.wilhelmtell.org/images/WilhelmTell.orgweb51.mpg

URL with a space in for .mp4 works:
http://www.wilhelmtell.org/images/Wilhelm Tell.org_web3.mp4

the "%20" is the browser's way of reading spaces, a space is encoded as %20

There must be a space in the name of the file like this "Wilhelm Tell.org_web5.mpg"

http://www.wilhelmtell.org/images/Wilhelm%20Tell.org_web3.mp4 --- works fine in Safari because it's not mpg, it's mp4 --- Permute will convert mpg to mp4.

The problem turns out to not having anything to do with spaces in the URL. Any other ideas what the problem might be?

With this link it sometimes works and sometimes it does not:
