I have recently procured a Apple iPad MB292LL/A Tablet (16GB, Wifi). Would like to know whether this is considered as a tablet computer or similar to kindle e-bookreader.

There plenty of ebook apps for the iPad.
iBooks, Kindle, nook, Kobo, Borders eBooks, etc.

As Chris said, the iPad has many excellent ebook reader applications, but using it as a reader is only <1% of it's capabilities. Personally, I use it for an ereader often, as I travel a lot, but it does so much more.

ebook readers which use e-ink can be read in direct sun light you cant do that with an ipad

ebook readers which use e-ink can no be read in the dark an ipad can do that
