Loop browser - missing loops

I just bought a Macbook Air which came with Garageband '11 installed; however, when I go into the loop browser, many of the categories are greyed out and can't be selected. When I used to run Garageband '09, all categories were available.

Is this just a promo copy of Garageband '11 - would I need to buy the full version in order to get all the loops?

I have the same problem, I bought a new iMac and loops are missing, yet my MacBook has them installed.
I'm running iLife 11 on the MacBook and have used the disk in the iMac to see if that would help. I tried to locate the loops directory without success that I could compare the directory to see whats missing.

There seems to be problems with missing loops, but as yet no real answer is available.

Hey, thanks for the info listed here. However, I tried everything in those order it's listed, and still no luck.

After deleting the index folder, I dragged the Apple Loops folder to my GarageBand loops window. It said it was reindexing loops; however, it still only shows software instruments; no loops. The same can be said about dragging my JamPacks in: it says it's importing the loops, and then nothing shows up.

I'm frustrated because when I view any songs I recorded before today, I can see the FULL loop browser. But as soon as I open this project, there are NO loops. Initially I thought the issue came from upgrading to GB'11, but I have projects recorded after upgrading that the loops work just fine in. It's just today's project, for whatever reason.

Any help would be appreciated; I'm going crazy!

Sweditorial: I had the same problem. Did you use a different time signature on your new project? I made a song in 3/4 time and very few loops were available for that reason. Since you don't have this missing-loops problem with other projects, I suspect it's the time signature issue. GarageBand will not display loops that it considers incompatible with the time signature you've chosen. (Thanks to Bullets and Bones for pointing this out.)

I have gb 09. We just installed a bigger hardrive on my mac book pro. We did time mahine before installing. We re-installed the operating system. All seemed fine until I went to use my cello loops today and most of my string loops are gone. All that remains are international string loops like Afgan this and Brazilian that. The original libray must be somewhere on the computer since we restored my programs and settings using time machine right after we installed the hardrive. Any advice as to how to get my library back to normal?

Thanks for your help.

If you can get the iLife DVD, you can get the loops. I just had the same problem but fixed it. I had the DVD, so I went to customize, garageband, loops. Usually when you install it normally, it doesn't install all the loops. Since you had it already installed on your Mac, try to spotlight search the file GarageBandExtraContent.pkg.tar . This is the loops file. unzip it and follow the onscreen instructions.

Good Luck!

P.S. My advice is based on other discussions and my iLife '09. It might not work with iLife '11.
