3GS syncing problems-iTunes locks up until iphone unplugged?...

Hello all. I have 3GS-32gb-4.2.1 iTunes 10.1.1.4 on Windows Vista 32bit. I launch iTunes manually, then plug in phone when it's done launching, and sync. Lately, I plug in, and windows maps the drive for the camera on the phone, but iTunes doesn't see the phone. It then proceeds to lock iTunes up until I remove the phone from USB. Sometimes it does work, sometimes it doesn't...I have 4 built in USB ports on my machine, and 4 more in the minidock. It seems to be hit or miss on all of them...I blew away all the USB related items in Device Manager, rebooted, and let Windows reinstall everything again. I'm not so sure that helped at all. I also did a repair on the iTunes install. That didn't help. I then uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and that didn't help either. I took the minidock with me upstairs so I could see ATT signal. I was going to restore phone. I used port on minidock to restore. Got it all restored and synced all apps etc. back to phone. Have had a couple different errors come up since...Although i think it's better than it was. I got an error iPhone "xxx" cannot be synced. An error occurred write to the device. I then unplugged and replugged, and it was able to sync...Anyone have any ideas why this may be happening?

After I posted this, I have done a couple things. Here is a part of my post to another person having similar issue....I have been having similar issues lately...Intermittently. I posted a separate post earlier today. I could see the mapped drive of the phones camera in windows just fine, navigate it, copy pics down, etc...But iTunes would not see it/lock up like it was trying to talk to it...Sometimes I would get an error...If I just unplugged it, it would free up iTunes...Anyway, I had tried several things, but ultimately, I think I have resolved the issue....Are you using the exact same cable to sync the other devices?...I think my main problem was a non-Apple USB cable(that came with a non-Apple car charger)...Try a different cable anyway...I brought my Apple cable that came with the phone with me to work today(I just use it to charge at night), and have not gotten it to fail once. I must have plugged-unplugged 24 times today just to see if i could make it fail. I could get it to fail on the Non-Apple cable I would say...at least 2-3 out of 10 tries...The non-Apple cable has been working fine since I got the non-Apple car charger when I bought the phone back in July....but I guess you get what you pay for...It still will charge it though...so I'll use the non-Apple cable at home for charging, and keep the Apple cable with me...Should get another wall charger with a new cable anyway though... Since then, I had 1 or 2 instances of this with Apple cable. Not bad, but still irritating. Now, since iTunes 10.1.2 update, no issues at all. I think iTunes also had a problem...

I have since still been having the intermittent problem of iPhone not showing up in iTunes, yet Windows sees it as a mapped drive....I think I have finally resolved it...I hope. My McAfee HIPS was blocking the Bonjour service that iTunes uses. UPD port 5353. I put my McAfee in learn mode and let it create a new rule to let that go through. I'll post back soon if this fixed it. I think it did....
