How can I create a CD that has Copy Protection? If I can't protect files from being copied off a burned cd, how can I at least protect the files from being opened on a new computer (encryption?). This is for Mac OS X 10.4.11. I found Espionage -- but only for Mac 10.5 and up.
The Disk Utility can be used to
encrypt the image, but anyone who has or successfully guesses the password can easily break the protection, and anyone who doesn't can't do anything with the files. This is meant for securing sensitive information, not for creating a DRM setup.
You could create & then burn a disk image that has been set to read only to a CD. Try to set a very good password for the disk image too. If someone gains access to the CD, they will be able to copy the the disk image to their computer, but not be able to open it (if they don't know the password), and if they do, they will only be able to read the documents, and not edit them.
Can I prevent from an individual to COPY my files from the CD (or any other storage drive) into his computer without a password.
I have a portfolio of artwork (photos) that I do want to distribute to others, but I don't want others to be able to copy and keep those images. So is there a way to lock those files from being duplicated?
No. Any mechanism which enables them to be read also allows them to be copied off and duplicated. This is why a lot of people watermark their photos when posting them online.
I have agree with Neil, mynameismyname. In the end, there is no way for you to stop someone from getting those photos of yours. If you keep a CD of your files in a safe spot, like your room of bathroom (not kidding here), you should be able to stop anyone from getting access to the CD 😉
