Nokia 5230 bluetooth to connect to net via mac's bluetooth sharing net?

Hello,

I am trying to connect to internet my Nokia 5230 mobile phone, I don't have data subscription for it.

I switched on Bluetooth on the Mac and on the Nokia, they are both seeing each other, file transfer, etc.

On the Mac in Sharing - System panel, I have shared my Mac Internet connection via Bluetooth.
So if someone connect to the mac via bluetooth, it can access the internet.

It works for my iPod touch via WIFI instead of bluetooth.

But I'm not able to do the same with the Nokia, access the internet by using bluetooth to use the mac internet connection.

It seems that in the PAN Bluetooth panel in Network system panel, the mac says There is no PAN Bluetooth.

If I am not wrong, it's PAN Bluetoot that must be used for such link. Correct ? because there is also a DUN bluetooth.

The data for the Nokia in Bluetooth panel is :

AVRCP Controller
AVRCP Target
Audio source
Data transfer
Hands-free Audio gat...
Imaging
Nokia OBEX PC Suite...
Nokia SyncML Server
OBEX File Transfer
OBEX Object Push
Phonebook access PSE
PnP information
SDP Server
SIM Access
Service inconnu = unknown service 🙂
SyncMLClient

Lost in the bluetooth Am I :-/

Another thing which puzzles me, is that the bluetooth seems to disconnect almost immediately.
I send a file, the file is sent, then it disconnect ???
If I do something like sending a file, it starts again, but how to find it if it closes immediately ???

Thanks a lot for your help.

It would appear that your Nokia does not have the required Bluetooth profiles to allow internet sharing.

The Bluetooth connection is only kept open while some actual bluetooth activity is occurring. This is correct behavior. The green connected dot will disappear as soon as the bluetooth task is complete.

It seems it's possible, take a look on this movie,

That movie is showing how to connect your computer to the internet via your Bluetooth phone's internet connection, not how to connect your mobile phone to the internet via your computers connection.

It's also showing the process on a Windows PC - what that movie shows is about a million times simpler on a Mac.

I've tried what you want to do, on a phone that supposedly supports sharing an internet connection, but have never been successful. Neither have a lot of other people.

Google for "share mac internet connection over bluetooth"

There is no doubt that what you want to do is (technically) possible, assuming you have a phone that supports Bluetooth PAN (which your Nokia doesn't).

However, again those instructions you've found are irrelevant if you're trying to do this on a Mac. You'll also need to get a phone that supports this Bluetooth usage.

I have a Sony Ericsson phone that support Bluetooth PAN and internet sharing, and although it worked easily sharing the phone's internet connection to the Mac, I could never get it working the other way round.
