Screen shot missing

Screen shot missing

Screen shot has been great (shiftcontrol+command4 (or 3). I have it set for the desktop as where to store it. Problem now it doesn't work as it should and doesn't store the image anywhere. How do I fix it?

Macbook Pro (Late 2008), Mac OS X (10.6.5), 4GB Core2Duo 2.4 /w SSD

SHIFT-CONTROLCMD3 saves it to the clipboard. CMDSHIFT3 or +4, saves it to your Desktop (or other specified location).

I know the commands, but for some reason, it won't save the file on my desktop, which is where I have it set to go. I need an answer to fix this.

Using CONTROL isn't designed to save to the Desktop. You can use this Terminal command to select where they're saved (substitute your user's shortname for username):

*defaults write com.apple.screencapture location /Users/username/Desktop*

Correct. It was setup to use desktop so I could find and easily setup emails, I used the terminal, I send out my captured images to my clients before the final screen print. Sorry I don't understand your fix? All I want is for screen shot app to work properly, At the moment it works 10% of the time, it use to work flawlessly.

In order for the screen shot to work one must use shift control+command3 on my external mac keyboard. When using macbook pro without my external keyboard I use shift fn+command3.

I really need my screen shots, any fix?

Just found the problem, the external keyboard is slightly defective. I wanted a wireless one anyway.

Like a PC, you just have to paste to a word document to see the screen shot. I was having this problem too and it finally showed up there.

Im taking screenshots using command control shift 4, the axes show up on the cursor and I can take screenshots, but the file never shows up. I tried using Terminal commands, didnt work.

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is a couple of years old, less people are likely to look at it. You can link to this one.

If you have Dropbox installed, go to the menu bar icon, click the gear at the bottom right, then Preferences/Import - make sure the Share screenshots using Dropbox isn't checked.

Actually all you have to do is double click on the screenshot file and it will open in preview.
