Finder Sort by Kind DEFAULT

Finder Sort by Kind DEFAULT

Someone please tell me there is a way to get Finder to default to a sort by Kind.

I had two windows open side by side with the same information and realized that one was sorted by Kind (which was really super). Did I hit the Kind category by accident somehow or did I accidentally find a magic button to get Finder to sort by Kind as a default...

Thanks for any help with this.

Mac OS X (10.6.3), Mac Pro, MacBook Pro

Sorry to dig up the grave. This is nice but it doesn't seem to stick between folders. I.e. if I set folder "A" to have these viewing defaults, folder "B" will not have these viewing defaults. How do I get around this?

Well, with the folder open, click on the Action icon in the window menu bar; highlight Arrange by and choose Kind. That should do the trick.

Well, I'm not sure - I like it arranged by Name (and columns), so I just tried it for you once.... but, supposedly, it will remember the settings, so give it a try.

I think I have not found this to stick so I am trying to find a way to get it to stick.

It popped up this way recently and I remembered how much I really would like to get this to stick.

My choices (although different) have always stuck, so I don't know why yours wouldn't; I'd try it and either shut it down or restart and then see if it is still arranged to your liking.

I figured this out with a little hunting around the menus in Finder:

1. Open Finder

2. Click on the Action Button

3. Choose "Show View Options"

4. Click the drop down menu "Arrange By"" and choose "Kind"

5. Click "Use as Defaults" to save the changes

Now everytime the Finder window opens it should default to the view you prefer
