Replace iPhone 4 battery

Does replacing the iPhone 4 battery erase the phone's memory or does it stay in Flash memory? Understand very well opening the case voids warranty, just asking if I replace battery myself keeps everything intact. Seems like VERY EASY procedure.

All flash memory in the phone (except RAM) is retained without power. Replacing the battery has the same effect as resetting the phone (pressing both home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo appears).

Why do you want to replace the battery yourself?? If your battery is already failing, it's covered by the warranty and will be replaced for free - doing it yourself voids the warranty. You're the rightful owner, right?

Somehow you always manage to troll into threads...

Let's see - spend $30 to fix it yourself and void the warranty, vs Apple fixing it for $0 and maintaining the warranty. Tough choice there, eh?

So, Apple changing the screws, screws you? Sounds like you already have a few loose screws yourself. Buy the right screwdriver. It'll cost you less than a new battery.

Ah stick and stones...whatever...I love my iPhone its the best smart phone out there to date...but i dont like Apples practices...where everything that you need has pretty much have to go through them...its good if your still under warranty...But after one year and you end up needing one yeah your screwed...yes you can get somewhat of a tool to take this off but thats it...these are tamper resist screws meaning you screw it out the heads are done and you need to put a new screws...

I didnt buy an iPhone cause it was made by Apple...its just a good phone thats why...but once theres something better ill just jump to that new phone...

I dont know if you can undertand loving a product but not the company...im just a consumer after all not a loyalist...Apple dont care about me so why should I?

Your opinion of Apple, good or bad, is irrelevant and has no place in this forum. Your compulsion to post it at every opportunity only belies your true agenda which is to be disruptive and confrontational.

Your concept of "tamper resistant screws" is incorrect. The purpose is to prevent tampering with the phone, not the screws themselves. They're made to be difficult to remove at all without damaging the device. They require the correct tool but they remove intact when you use it.

This all begs the question why you're so interested in being able to open the phone at all. Your profile shows that you get a new iPhone model every time one is released - it's always in warranty.

No. Replacing the battery will not delete all your data on the iPhone 4. There is a difference between Flash Memory and RAM (Read-only Memory). If your phone is shut off, the RAM will be cleared as it turns off, while a Flash Memory is able to retain the data. It won't clear itself.

Well battery replacing on the iPhone 4 is easy IF you know what your doing. Just go to the Apple store to replace the battery.

Apple replaces the battery for you under the warranty, with no cost. With the iphone 4, they can simply remove the back, and replace the battery. They then will give you your phone back. Unlike the previous iphone's, they will have to replace the whole unit, but with the iphone 4, they can just swap the battery inside.

Not correct. Apple has always replaced batteries for all iPhone models, just as they have for iPods. Other than replacing some cracked screens, it's the only repair procedure they've done for iPhones. All other problems are replaced with a refub, with the broken phone dispatched for extraordinary rendition in Refurbland.

You probably didn't get what i meant. Yes older models they do but most likely they replace a unit rather than just the battery. I probably haven't seen someone get just the battery swap on the older models. But what I'm saying is with the iphone 4, they can just replace the battery of itself. My sister has an iphone 3G S, she had battery problems, so they just gave her a replacement phone.
